Peter Cohen, an advertising creative director, designed this poster in 1990.
It was created as a reaction to the large number of homeless people he saw
on the streets of New York City and the hardened attitude that many had
developed toward them. Cohen originally printed 2,000 poster on his own
with the Coalition for the Homeless contact information. The organization
only became aware of his creative effort when calls started coming in about
the poster. It became the start of entire campaign.
